DAMAC Towers Nine Elms London, DAMAC Property’s flagship skyscraper in the United Kingdom, was named Highly Commendable in The Concrete Society Awards 2023 for its  outstanding innovations in the field of construction.

Situated in the sought-after Nine Elms area in London’s Wandsworth borough, DAMAC’s completed, soaring residential tower was praised for its careful planning, where up to 4.5m cantilevers were achieved with no impact on the floor-to-floor heights. In coming to their decision, The Concrete Society Awards judges also commented that some of the many reasons DAMAC Tower Nine Elms London was Highly Commendable included its highly-complex engineering and the 80% lower cost per square metre compared to other developments across the main project site.

Additionally, the use of high-strength concrete to achieve the vision of the designers was also singled out, as well as the intelligent use of large steel tendons that were embedded into the concrete frame to receive the steel and simplify interfaces.

Sometimes referred to as the Jenga tower due to its iconic silhouette and geometric, ultra-contemporary façade, DAMAC Tower Nine Elms London was celebrated for its efficient design and carbon-friendly approach – long before carbon assessments were a hot topic among fellow developers.

According to Mohammed Tahaineh, General Manager – Projects at DAMAC Properties, the award is testament to the company’s ongoing efforts to provide value not just in real estate, but sustainability too. Speaking about the project and commendation, he said “DAMAC Tower Nine Elms London is an exciting representation of our place on the world’s property stage, one where we remain at the forefront of design that is also mindful of how building practices impact the environment. We are honoured to be named by The Concrete Society Awards, and are determined to continue on this path as leaders in conscious property development.”

He continued, “I am proud of the team who worked hard to win the award, and look forward to breaking new ground in the fields of intelligent construction as well as sustainability in the future.”

The prestigious annual awards seek to recognise projects that have achieved an impressive feat in concrete, and this year named just five as worthy of the accolade. This year, The Concrete Society Awards was hosted by writer, broadcaster and panel show regular, Marcus Brigstocke, who presented the awards on 15 November at The Royal Lancaster London.

DAMAC Tower Nine Elms London joins the list of the Dubai-based developer’s other sustainability initiatives and accomplishments, in the UAE as well as around the world.
